(加齢に伴いミオスタチン(筋肥大抑制)は増加、フォリスタチン(ミオスタチンを抑制)は低下、ミオスタチンの働きを抑制し、筋発達を促す因子であるMEF2A(Myocyte enhancer factor-2), Myf5(Myogenic factor 5), MyoD(Myogenic differentiation 1) 、myogeninも低下する。
